Distinct, comprehensive, clear, modern and informative, that was our ambitious objective when we decided to renew our corporate website. Behind the scenes, in 2019, a lot of effort was put into building a website that reflects the innovative and sustainable company that LC Packaging is today. With our new website, LC showcases its product portfolio and services, industry knowledge and sustainable initiatives, efforts and partnerships around the world. Various interesting reports and downloads have of course also been made available, including our Annual Report and Sustainability Report, brochures and certificates.

In 2019, we invested in the modernisation and complete upgrade of our ERP System. Mid 2020, we will start with the implementation of the ultramodern S4Hana. This SAP ERP package works with the latest generation database and therefore has enormous computing power. 

In addition to extra speed, this offers many benefits for our users, such as user friendliness due to the availability of handy apps, and immediate and live complex reporting. In the long run, our ERP system can be made available for our customers, who can directly request reports on consumption, delivery times and for example available stock by using apps.

Since the start of 2019, our purchasing, supply chain and storage activities for the FIBC product group in the Netherlands and Belgium have been centralised. This process optimisation brings a range of benefits, such as shorter delivery times, more efficient container loading, less stock, and more efficient container handling and distribution, to name a few. This is the first step towards a full centralisation of our purchasing activities. In the near future other product groups and countries will be added, where possible, such as LC Packaging Germany mid-2020s.

As an alternative to plastic wrapping, our cardboard department has introduced 100% recyclable cardboard sleeves. These types of cardboard covers keep fruits protected and in place, when packed in punnets and small trays. As the fit of the sleeve with respect to the type of fruit is very important, LC Packaging introduced a more or less standard product range.

For each calibre apple or pear and for each punnet, we have created unique sleeves. We can attach the sleeves to a tray to keep them in place, add information on the label and make sure the rest of the sleeve is a true eye-catcher. The cardboard sleeves are also very suitable for packaging tomatoes, kiwis and avocados, for example. Contact our Cardboard Team for more information.

To increase recyclability, we designed a Woven PP bag together with one of our valued customers, which is made up of 98% polypropylene. Even though the qualities of the bags, the application and processing remain the same, after-use the customer can easily offer the used bags for recycling. After intensive trials, the first containers of bags have been shipped and are in use.

Developing our FIBCs is an ongoing process. Not only do we aim for our bags to be even more sustainable (design for recycling), we are also continuously improving the safety and quality of our bags.

In 2019, we introduced new form stable FIBC designs, increasing safety in process and logistics. These so-called Q-bags are now available with 8 or 4 side seams. In addition to the general benefits (lower transportation costs and increased transportation safety), these bags increase process safety by reducing the risk of leakage through the seams.

A unique feature that increases safety, quality and sustainability is our safe release system. Together with one of our valued customers, we have developed a procedure to increase workplace safety through the use of a unique, high-safety release system. Release points are at the side of the bag, instead of the bottom, so there is no need for workers to go underneath the big bag to open the discharge spout. The versatility of the bag, its technical features, easy handling and contribution in terms of safety deliver various benefits to its end-users.
