Annual Report 2019

Sustainability

We aim to provide sustainable packaging solutions, while taking into account people and planet.

On Friday 20 September 2019, LC Packaging celebrated the start of the construction of its new, sustainable and state-of-the-art headquarters and warehouse in the Netherlands. As the 5th  generation in the family, Lammers’ three sons had the honour of striking the symbolic first pole in the presence of 100 Dutch colleagues and other invited guests. The building, designed by Quadrant4, will be completed in 2020 and meets all modern requirements, with special attention paid to sustainability and well-being. The new building will be realised in two phases. During the first phase, more than 11,000 m2 of warehouse space and 3,000 m2 of office space will be realised. In phase 2, another 5,000 m2 of warehouse space will be added.

In 2019, our sustainability efforts were acknowledged by EcoVadis with a golden CSR rating. With this golden rating, we now belong to the top 3% of the 60,000 organisations in 198 industries assessed by EcoVadis worldwide!

LC Packaging stands out particularly on the topics ‘Environment’ and ‘Labour & Human Rights’.

Sustainability is embedded in our core values and we will continue to find ways to make our planet a better place than it is today. We will continue our devotion to respecting the environment, people and customers in our daily operations.

The new building will accommodate LC Packaging Netherlands, LC Packaging International and LC Packaging Global.

“In this new location, we can continue our growing organisation at full speed and safeguard the quality that we strive for every day. With our new building, we aim to obtain a BREEAM Outstanding certificate, the highest achievable standard when it comes to sustainable construction. Measures have been taken to minimise CO2 emissions and consumption of energy and water, and sustainable materials are used for the construction and interior of our new building. In addition, the building will be a pleasant place to work. The well-being of our employees is key. We would like every LC colleague to go to work with a smile every day.”

During the 2019/2020 holidays, LC Packaging once more launched the Green Heart Campaign, in which its customers originally contributed to community projects supported by the LC Supports Foundation. This foundation was founded by LC Packaging in 2017 to contribute to the improvement of the environment and well-being of communities in which our company operates and contribute to the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. During the campaign, over 200 customers were asked to choose the project closest to their hearts and instead of giving a Christmas present to these customers, LC Packaging – on their behalf – donated an amount of money to the projects of their choice, raising an additional €2,750 euros.

Quality education | Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan Hope for Children Foundation supports fifteen schools and homes to improve livelihoods by investing in educational facilities, building shelters, organises activities and provides resources to help improve literacy.

Waste pickers of Dhaka | Bangladesh

With our local Partner Grambangla and ChildHope UK, we developed a skills development programme for waste pickers in Dhaka, after which they are offered a job at LC Packaging’s SA 8000 certified production location.

This daycare centre is located on the factory premises and offers a safe, playful and educational environment for children from the age of 6 months to 4 years. Two employees, a supervisor and a nanny have been hired to run the centre. Sporsho Daycare ensures that the employees responsible for running the facility are well qualified and experienced in all aspects of childcare, including first-aid, to deliver a safe and happy stay for the children. The daycare service is free of charge for the DBPL employees who bring their children to Happy Kids. In addition, DBPL has set up a fair price shop on its factory premises. The shop was inaugurated on 18 September 2019 by the Dutch Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Harry Verweij.

The Happy Shop, with 1,300 square feet of floor space, runs a fair price retail system exclusively for the employees of DBPL, selling packaged and non-packaged food and other household items to workers at up to 10% less than the retail price in the market. Employees are able to purchase goods on credit, which are paid back by deducting from their salaries.

In addition to allowing the workers to save on goods they already buy, the scheme also provides free healthcare benefits to the employees.
