Trust is key

I’m 46 years old, happily married and a proud father of two sons, aged 15 and 12. I started  working at LC Packaging in 2000 as a Sales Consultant and later Product Manager, before  becoming Country Manager in Spain.

I’m very proud to work at LC Packaging. I don’t just believe in our core values, I really feel them. As does my team. Committed, Reliable and Loyal. It is what we are, what we preach and what you get. In a market with a lot of supply, our customers appreciate our solid history, values and honesty. It allows us to build a strong relationship with them.

A well-oiled machine
Trust is one of the most valuable assets LC Packaging gives its people. The trust I receive from the international management enables me to do the best I can with our Spanish affiliate. And I try to give that same trust to my team. They know what they have to do with the knowledge and skills they all possess. By trusting them, not only do we get the job done well, it also enables them to be free and grow. Individually and with the LC Group. In Spain, we believe in what we are doing and know that our work is contributing to the entire LC Group.

With most people working here for 12-15 years, we are a true family.

The only way is up
LC Spain wasn’t always flourishing the way it is now. Spain is a big country, with a lot of markets and products, and we made some misjudgements, wanting too much at once. By better understanding our products, the market and the LC Family, we have really turned things around. We first broke even in 2003 and since then we have continued to grow our revenues each year, resulting in a 15 million euro revenue in 2018. How did we achieve that? By starting small. We started in Barcelona. We got to know the market and the best way to sell our products in this closed area. From there, with lessons learned, we spread out more and more. And today we supply both Spain and Portugal with our products!

Hungary is ready

I’ve been the Hungary Country Manager and Regional Director for 6 years. I literally  started my career at LC Packaging when I joined the company 25 years ago and I’ve seen it  all: administration, sales, even finance...

My story goes back many years and the special relationship my family has with Adrianus (Art) Lammers and his family. This relationship had a great impact on me, personally and professionally. It gave me many opportunities a young girl in a communist era wouldn’t normally have, because of the trust Art gave me. He and my father both taught me to be passionate about what I’m doing every day, and to be open and trusting. I still do that in my role as Country Manager and Regional Director for our businesses in Eastern European countries.

Crossing borders
We are Hungary’s market leader in Agri packaging. We mainly sell WPP bags and net bags. Over the last couple of years, the market has gone through a lot of changes and developments, which has given us a lot of possibilities to grow and develop in the region around Hungary as well. We now also serve customers in Romania, Slovakia, Croatia and Serbia. We also see great developments in our FIBC and cardboard packaging markets.

“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”

In previous years we measured employee satisfaction through an annual survey.  However, we strive for more than satisfaction; we strive for enthusiasm and engagement. This year we switched to measuring and stimulating enthusiasm with the help of the Flame, Flow  and Flood Theory. This approach lets us focus on the positive: ensuring that we are in the Flow as  much as possible, individually and as a team, and feel enthusiastic about our workday on a regular  basis. Increasing our sense of Flow is a common goal and fosters dialogue on important topics in  all layers of the organisation, such as having fun in your work, receiving sufficient feedback, having  a common goal, and creating a pleasant and safe working environment for everyone. 89% of our  colleagues say they are proud to work for LC Packaging.

Flow: From satisfaction to enthusiasm

People

LC Packaging is doing well and that means our family is also growing. Compared to 1 January 2018, our workforce had expanded by about 25% on 1 January 2019, to 1,540 employees. This growth is due to an expansion of our FIBC production activities in Bangladesh and South Africa, a growing sales organisation, and our acquisition of Hagens Verpakkingen in December 2018. Support departments such as the quality department, business operations, sustainability, marketing and communications have also expanded their teams due to conscious investments. In 2019 we expect to welcome even more new colleagues in all areas of the LC World.

Expanding the LC Family: 25% growth

People

This year we celebrated our 95th anniversary. Established in 1923, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, LC Packaging has grown from a one-man business into the company it is today: an international producer and distributor of flexible packaging with offices in 16 countries and over 1,500 highly motivated colleagues, with whom we celebrated our birthday extensively. We also recorded almost a century of LC Packaging in a beautiful book: LC 95 Years. Interested in a read? Do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to the next centuries of existence.

Annual Report 2018

People

Quality, dedicated service and our many years of experience and extensive knowledge. This is really something we are proud of.

Excellent and fast service in Agri
Mediterranean agri packaging is a fast-moving, highly competitive market where we distinguish ourselves with our excellent and fast service, because we have large volumes of products in stock and assure extremely fast deliveries. Here, prices are more competitive, but we still prefer to sell a little less with better margins.

Over the years, we have continually shown a 5-8% growth increase per year. Our goal is to continue to do so.

Quality above all
Our primary business consists of FIBC (with more than 75% turnover) and Agri packaging. Before 2006, we mainly sold level 1 big bags for the different construction companies in Spain. Here, quantity was our main focus. In response to the economic crisis in 2006, we shifted our focus to more high-quality bags. We now mostly sell level 3 and level 4 big bags for the food, pharma and chemical industry for example. These products have a higher market value, which means that the packaging must also be of a very high quality, tailored to the specific product, exactly what we are good at! Therefore, we mostly focus on the production costs when we make our customers an offer, rather than pricing according to market request. Because of this we can confidently say that we trust our own facilities and the partners we work with. The added value for our customers?

With most people working here for 12-15 years, we are a true family.

The perfect match
As a team, we believe in what we do and are not afraid to do it better and differently either. The combination of more experienced and familiar faces with a new generation full of questions, innovations and eager to do better is our secret weapon. We help each other. I do my part by trying to listen, be open-minded, support and trust. In the end, we all have a common goal and that is to help our customers as best we can. My motto for the upcoming year is a quote by Charles Darwin:  “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, not the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.”

Together we win
With changing markets, we also need to change our approach. To be more competitive, we are stepping up our game regarding customer support and are now working with them for a successful change. Our goal is to think together with our customer. The power of the LC Group helps us achieve that. The strong values, principles, and experience in modern packaging and international representation are our guide in strengthening our relationship and collaboration with our customers. We really try to be as close to them as we can. Literally. Over the last years, we have installed 12 cardboard erecting machines directly at the customers business.
