LC Packaging wants to minimise its impact on the environment. With the help of Except Integrated Sustainability, in 2017 we conducted comprehensive corporate environmental footprint research for our CO2 emissions, waste generation and water and energy use. Based on the outcomes we have finalised environmental targets for 2022.

In January 2017, LC Packaging founded LC Supports Foundation. The foundation’s purpose is to contribute to improving the environment and well-being of communities in areas where LC Packaging operates, such as Bangladesh, Africa and Europe. All projects of the foundation contribute to the Global Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations.

CSR Netherlands, the Centre of Excellence for Dutch companies that are striving towards corporate social responsibility, has conducted a ‘Sustainable and Inclusive Business Scan’ in Bangladesh in the jute sector. CSR Netherlands has identified 11 jute producers in Bangladesh compliant with the CSR standards. Only two of these jute producers are jute mills, producing jute bags. We are proud to say these two producers are our long-term production partners (over 25 years). Other jute mills have been labelled ‘not export ready’.

Our aim is to minimise waste. The waste of materials during the production of our packaging, but also the waste of packaging products after use. 80% of our cardboard products produced in our corrugated cardboard factories is made of recycled paper and our jute bags for example are 100% biodegradable. In 2017, LC Packaging invested in a Starlinger Recycling Machine and started a first-of-its-kind waste recycling project in Bangladesh (Greenbangla). The aim is to collect or buy used plastics, for example waste plastics from our own FIBC production location, to recycle and process into value-adding products: PP granulates. These granules can be used for the production of polypropylene bags.

LC Packaging Group accelerated its commitment to sustainability in 2017 by launching its first long-term sustainability vision for 2022: No Time to Waste. As part of the LC Packaging strategy to grow responsibly, this new vision provides LC Packaging with a long-term framework to guide all sustainable decisions and goal setting within the organisation.
